Welcome To Our Farm![]()
Alpacas of Acadie is a new alpaca farm nestled on the end of the beautiful Acadian village of West Pubnico. It is owned by Deanna and Roger d'Entremont. The decision to enter the alpaca industry came about because of a need for change. Having spent 32 years in the hairstyling business, Deanna needed a lifestyle adjustment. We investigated the alpaca industry for six years prior to this; however, the idea was placed on the back burner until 2006, when a newspaper article sparked our interest once more. We were pleasantly surprised to find many new farms and fibre mills close by. There was even a large event, Pacafiesta, which allowed us to meet people already in the industry and to come face to face with the animals. We had a small barn and the land had been cleared. All we needed were some alpacas! We visited many farms and through Pacafiesta, we met the alpaca breeder who had the animals that were right for us. This would satisfy Deanna's love of the animals and her wish to spend more time outdoors; thus we embarked on the adventure! We purchased 2 pregnant females and they arrived 2 days before Christmas. Roger jokingly told people that he was getting something for his wife for Christmas that no other woman in the village would be receiving. Although Deanna has the passion for these animals and is the main breeder and care giver, Roger remains her right hand man in all aspects of raising alpacas. "I'm still in the hair business," said Deanna, "it's just a different type of hair. It's easier; these alpacas have no negative comments on their haircuts!" Whether you are serious or just curious, feel free to call or arrange a visit to the farm any time. We can tell you what we've learned so far and how alpacas have changed our lives. We never tire of alpaca chats! |
